If you thought that the state pension would maintain
your current standard of living in retirement, then
think again.
The basic state pension may keep you out of total
poverty, but if you still want to enjoy those extra
things in life, like holidays, eating out, or driving a
decent car, then taking care of your pension
requirements should be high up on the list of
priorities.

via your employer or personally you will benefit from
the following:
Tax relief on contributions -
All growth within the pension fund is tax free, and only
income distributed within the fund as dividends is
subject to any tax. On taking pension benefits, up to
25% of the fund is available as tax free cash. It is
now very easy to top up an existing employer’s pension
scheme by adding your own personal pension, or an
additional voluntary contribution to the existing
employer’s scheme .
There is now no limit to the number of pension
schemes an individual can contribute into, but there is
an annual amount limit that you can contribute in any
one tax year, and also a lifetime allowance.
How much can I contribute to a personal
pension ?
In any one tax year individuals can now contribute
the higher of £3,600 or 100% of earnings (up to the
annual limit) and still receive tax relief on the
contributions.
Some of the key factors to consider when saving for
retirement are:
How much income do you require.
What effect will inflation have.
Do you need flexibility.
What age do you wish to retire.
What options are available when it’s time to take my
pension ?
When it is time to take your pension (pensions can be
crystallised from age 50 until 6 April 2010 when the age
increases to 55) you have the option of taking up to 25%
of the fund as tax free cash.
Depending on the type of pension scheme and your age
you will the have access to a scheme pension, lifetime
annuity, unsecured pension , or alternatively secured
pension.
Irrespective of your career stage, or
existing arrangements, we can provide comprehensive
pensions advice.
